Put The Pimp in Jail Not on Television

Wednesday, July 26, 2006
Alright I have to get this out of me before I explode. I hate the word “pimp” and it frustrates me that this word has become a positive term used everyday.

Pimp my ride!
Pimp my blog!
Pimp my Wardrobe!

The problem is NOT the word itself but that it is being used in a positive tone; it should only be used in a negative tone. “Pimp your ride” should not be a good thing. If your ride gets pimped it should be destroyed NOT fixed up.

What is going on? Why are letting this hip hop culture (by far the worst of all cultures expect Al-Qaeda) into mainstream? Stop it!!! A pimp is somebody who rapes and enslaves women and then sells them to the highest bidder as a sex toy. There is nothing positive about it and surely nothing worth wanting to associate with this word. Stop it!!!!

What if they would have chosen some other word like “rape” instead of “pimp” (which is virtually the same thing) and started using that in a positive phrases? Imagine all of the stupid phrases like:

Rape my ride!
Rape my blog!
Rape my wardrobe!

I know it sound preposterous but it’s the same thing. If you would have told me twenty years ago my car was being pimped, I would have opened up a can of whoop ass on you.

Also why are we using z’s instead of s’s as a plural? For example: boyz, girlz. If you want to use this tripe in a blog that is your problem but using this in the mainstream media and such is just wrong. The last I heard, English is the acceptable form of language and communication in this country so use it properly or leave.

One more, why is the new generation infatuated with gangs? All the idiots talk about “my gangsta” bullshit like it’s a good thing. Maybe if some real gangsters would get hold of these idiots and pummel them during the hazing they would not be so quick to want to be one.

I still like many of the new rock bands so I am not old enough to be completely out of touch but I cannot stomach this hip hop crap and I wish it would die horribly.

This wasn't by any chance brought on by the fake PSA in this week's Reno 911 was it?...

I hate the words "bitches" and "ho" too -- I'll admit that OCCASIONALLY I use them ironically, but the manner in which they're used in the hip hop world is unconscionable. What's incredibly frustrating is that we're raising an entire generation of kids who think it's cool to demean women and do nothing but sell drugs and idolize athletes.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like rap and hip hop music a lot -- but the message in far too many songs is incredibly damaging. African-American children are especially at risk because there are so few role models for them to look up to, but rather than try to address the problem we keep shovelling black men into prisons. Out of sight and out of mind, I suppose. Gah, this issue pisses me off.

I agree with you that the word pimp is a poor choice in a positive setting but weather we like it or not words keep changing. When I was growing up grass was something you cut not something you smoked. To be gay was to be happy not homosexual. It goes on and on. Each generation reshapes the language and the previous generation decrys the change.

you know what is so wonderful about your words, that they were written by a man and not a woman...a real man with these thoughts...there is much hope.

Don't get me started on the English thing. With text messaging and hip hop we'll be lucky if our future generations can spell at all.

In my neighborhood all the girls, regardless of age, have D or DD breasts. They wear little Paris Hilton skirts and JLo tank tops. They act just like the girls in hip hop videos, hanging off guys and dancing around like strippers. It makes me very sad.

Finally someone agrees with my feelings about the outrageous overuse of the word "pimp." It makes me cringe.

While it's true that every generation devises its own language to further a sense of belonging, I don't understand why anyone but imbeciles would emulate criminals.

Words have great emotional power, no question. I've always wondered how successful the Ford Mustang would have been had they called it the Gelding.
